Professional Learning

We believe that Teaching Schools can play a vital role in identifying and developing leaders for the future. Each year we deliver a range of leadership programmes tailored to staff at different stages in their career. Below are some of the programmes we will be delivering this year:

National Professional Qualifications (NPQs)
Bowes Primary School/ETSA Bowes are proud to be part of the Anglia Ruskin Leadership Development Alliance, working in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University and outstanding schools in London and the East of England to deliver the Department for Education's new NPQ programmes. Only organisations and partnerships capable of delivering great leadership development - with strong schools at the heart of the local arrangements - were awarded accredited provider status by the Department for Education.

NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headship)
The NPQH is the 'qualification of choice' for experienced leaders aspiring to a headship (or equivalent position) in educational organisations including: schools, nursery schools, pupil referral units (PRUs), secure units, academies and free schools. NPQSL (National Professional Qualification for Senior Leaders)
The NPQSL has been developed for leaders who are leading beyond a team within an educational organisation, including schools, nursery schools, pupil referral units (PRUs), secure units, academies and free schools. The programme is suitable for existing and aspiring senior leaders with whole-school responsibilities, including Deputy or Assistant Heads, Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs), and senior leaders in a federation with cross-school responsibility. Aspiring to Headship
Following a successful pilot programme last year we are pleased to announce that we are offering this programme again in 2017.
Key objectives:
  • To begin to aquire the key skills of headship with regard to leading learning, distributive leadership, finance and personnel, accountability and governance.
  • To gain a greater understanding about the demands of the headship role and the support that is available.
  • To have professional conversations about ensuring effective teaching and learning through monitoring and mentoring others.
As a result of completing the programme you will be better equipped to apply for NPQH and/or consider applying for headship.

Enfield Effective Middle Leaders
Strengthening middle leadership is a priority for many Enfield Schools. This programme is designed in response to requests from senior leaders for a lighter touch to developing middle leaders than undertaking the full NPQML. Each session is built around an identified theme which will enable participants to develop knowledge, confidence and skills to be more effective in their middle leadership role. Dates run throughout the year.
